Q: Can I control Zone 2 and Zone 3 from my phone?

Yes. On multi-zone Denon and Marantz receivers, AVR Maestro gives each zone its own power, volume, mute, input and quick-volume presets, fully separate from the main zone. Zone state syncs live, so changes from the receiver's panel or remote show up in the app within a second.

Q: Can I use Quick Select or Smart Select in Zone 2 and Zone 3?

Yes. Each zone card has the zone's own Quick/Smart Select slots - tap a slot to recall it, press and hold to save the zone's current input and volume into it, straight from the card.

Q: Can I rename Zone 2 and Zone 3?

Yes. Long-press the zone name on the Home screen to rename any zone, the main zone included. The name is written to the receiver itself, so it shows in the manufacturer's app and every other client, and it works on older chassis too.

Q: Does each zone show what's playing?

Yes. When a zone is on, its card shows the live HEOS now-playing stream for that zone with transport controls.

Turning a zone on, and pointing it somewhere

The Zones tab listing Patio as zone 2 and ZONE3 as zone 3, each with its own power control — One card per zone the receiver declares

1. Open the Zones tab. Every zone your receiver declares gets a card. A receiver with one zone does not get the tab.
2. Turn the zone on with the power control on its card. Nothing about the main zone changes.
3. Pick its source. The list is your receiver's own, under any names you have renamed, and a zone can sit on a completely different input to the main room.
4. Set its volume. The zone has its own level and its own mute, and the quick-volume chips recall levels you set on that zone. Presets ramp smoothly unless you switch to Direct under Settings, Audio.
5. Optional: save it. Press and hold one of the zone's own Quick Select slots to store everything the zone is doing right now, then tap it later to bring it back.

Rename a zone by long-pressing its name on the Home screen. The name is written to the receiver, so the front panel and every other app agree with the app.

Worth knowing

Why powering the main zone does not kill your other rooms

Denon and Marantz receivers have two different power commands, and the difference matters if music is playing somewhere else in the house.

The system-wide standby command switches the whole chassis off, and the receiver takes the other zones down with it - measured on a Cinema 30, the chassis reports Zone 2 off one millisecond after the standby command lands. So the main power control in AVR Maestro deliberately sends the main-zone command instead. Turn the theatre off from the app and the kitchen keeps playing.

It works the other way too: switching the main zone on from a cold receiver wakes the chassis first, so you do not need to power the receiver on separately before using the app.

If a zone does switch itself off when the main zone changes, that is the receiver's own setup doing it rather than the app. Some models have a power-interlock option in their zone menu.
