How to save a Scene

Three taps to capture your setup

  1. Set it up: get your receiver exactly how you want it - input, volume, sound mode, calibration, the lot.
  2. Save: open the Scenes tab, tap Save Scene, give it a name, and check which settings to capture. The picker is grouped (Routing & Volume, Sound, Audyssey & Dirac, Speakers & Levels, Zones, Other) and only shows what your receiver has.
  3. Recall: tap the Scene here or from a Home screen card. Settings apply in a safe order, one at a time.
Long-press a Scene for Apply, Update with current settings, Rename or Delete. Give any Scene its own image from the Icon & Color sheet (see Custom Icons), and pin a Scene to an Android home-screen widget to fire it without opening the app. Your existing Channel Presets carry over automatically - nothing to re-save.
What a Scene captures

Almost everything - and only what you pick

A single Scene can snapshot any of the following. Recall replays only the settings you captured, so a "late-night" Scene can change just the volume and Dynamic EQ while leaving everything else alone.

Changing a Scene after you have made it

Long-press any Scene for the four things you will actually want:

To put a Scene on your Android home screen, add the AVR Maestro Scene widget from your launcher's widget list and pick the Scene. Tapping it fires the Scene without opening the app.

Troubleshooting

When a Scene does not fully apply

A Scene is not one command. It is a sequence, sent in a deliberate order and paced so the receiver can keep up, which is why recall takes a moment rather than happening instantly.

Scenes FAQ

What is a Scene?
A saved snapshot of your receiver's state - input, volume, sound mode, Audyssey/Dirac, speaker preset, levels, zones, even the tuner - that you recall with one tap. Recall replays only the settings you chose to capture.
How do I save one?
Set the receiver how you like it, open the Scenes tab, tap Save Scene, name it, and tick the grouped settings to capture (it only shows what your receiver supports).
Will recalling a Scene overload my receiver?
No - settings apply one at a time in a safe, paced order, so even slower receivers handle it cleanly.
Can I edit, reorder or rename a Scene?
Yes - long-press a Scene for Apply, Update with current settings, Rename or Delete, and edit exactly which settings it captures right in the save/edit dialog. Drag a Scene by its handle to reorder your list into any order you like.
Can a Scene turn my receiver on?
Yes - capture the power state when you save the Scene and recalling it switches the main zone on (or off) as part of the setup, as long as the receiver has network standby enabled so the app can reach it in standby.
What is the difference between Scenes and Quick/Smart Select?
Two separate features: Quick/Smart Select are the receiver's own built-in presets, while Scenes are AVR Maestro's, stored in the app and more flexible. Quick Select (Denon) and Smart Select (Marantz) are usually four slots that live on the unit, snapshot its current state - input, volume, sound mode and the like - and are recalled by the receiver itself; AVR Maestro just gives you nicer buttons to fire and rename them. Scenes live in the app, up to 20 per receiver, each with a name, icon and color you set. When you save one you tick exactly which settings it captures - input and volume, sound mode, Audyssey and Dirac, per-channel and subwoofer levels, tone, zones, the tuner station, power and more - and recall replays only the ones you ticked, one at a time in a safe order. Reach for a Quick/Smart Select slot when you want the receiver's own quick switch; build a Scene when you want one tap, your own pick of settings, and more than four to choose from. The two don't sync: saving a Scene leaves your Quick/Smart Select slots untouched, and recalling a slot doesn't change your Scenes.
