The remote

A real remote, plus the live picture

Full D-pad and transport control with a live header that shows the input, sound mode, and the actual channels in use - so you always know what your Denon or Marantz is doing. Four pages: swipe or tap the page tabs.

Everything, without the physical remote

  • Main Remote: command bar (Power / Info / Setup / Option / Back), D-pad, transport, and a volume bar - with a live header showing input, sound mode and the IN/OUT channels in use.
  • Inputs: the full source grid. Rename and reorder sources to match your gear - open the source list, tap a tile to edit, tap a source to rename it, drag to reorder. Renames are written to the receiver itself, so they show immediately here, in the manufacturer's app and in every other client - older chassis included. The order saves per receiver.
  • Quick / Smart Select: tap a slot to recall the receiver's saved scene; long-press to Rename or Save current state (a wizard lets you pick exactly which settings to capture). Slot renames are saved on the receiver too, so they follow you to every other app.
  • System: direct controls - HDMI output, dimmer/illumination, triggers, ECO, auto standby, sleep timer, CEC, HDMI audio out, speaker preset, picture/video mode, all-zone stereo, auto lip sync, audio delay, input mode. Unsupported items are hidden.
Volume, your way

Read the volume in dB or a relative scale

The Main Remote's volume bar shows the master volume live, and the header chip mirrors it. Prefer the receiver's own numbers over decibels? In Settings you can switch the volume readout between absolute dB (for example -62.5 dB) and the relative scale - both the header chip and the volume bar follow your choice, so the whole Remote speaks the units you think in.

The volume buttons ramp, like the ones on the remote

Tap the plus or minus and the volume moves one step. Hold it and it keeps moving, smoothly, until you let go - the way the physical remote behaves and the way your hand expects. Release and the receiver lands exactly on the step you stopped on, never past it.

Underneath, the app is coalescing: it accumulates where you are heading and paces what it actually puts on the wire, so a long hold does not flood a receiver that answers slowly. Small moves are smooth too - a change of a few decibels ramps rather than jumping.

What is coming in, and what is coming out

The Remote header carries a compact channel strip: the incoming signal on one row, what your receiver is driving on the other, with every speaker the receiver names. A stereo track over the network shows two channels in and a full upmix out.

Keyboard shortcuts on Mac & Windows

On the Mac App Store and Microsoft Store builds you can drive playback and volume straight from the keyboard - no reaching for the mouse. Use Cmd on macOS or Ctrl on Windows, and your keyboard's dedicated media keys work too. Nothing fires while you're typing in a text field, so renaming an input or entering an IP is never interrupted.

Common questions

Remote FAQ

Can I rename and reorder my inputs?
Yes - open the source list, tap a tile to edit, tap a source to rename it, drag to reorder. Rename them to "Nvidia Shield", "Xbox", "PS5" - the new name is written to the receiver itself, so it shows immediately in AVR Maestro, in the manufacturer's app and in every other client, older chassis included. The order saves per receiver everywhere.
Can I give my inputs custom icons?
Yes - long-press an input tile, pick any image (PNG, JPG, ICO, WebP and more), position it in the passport-style cropper and save. See the full Custom Input Icons guide for the walkthrough.
What does the virtual remote control?

Does AVR Maestro have keyboard shortcuts on desktop?
Yes - on Mac and Windows you can drive transport and volume from the keyboard. Use Cmd on macOS or Ctrl on Windows: Space for Play/Pause, . (period) for Stop, Left/Right for previous/next track, Up/Down for volume, and M to mute. Your dedicated media keys (play, pause, next, previous, stop, volume, mute) work too. Shortcuts pause while you're typing in a text field.
